I graduated in 2010 from the New Media Production and Design Program at SAIT Polytechnic. In addition to this diploma I also have an Architectural Technologies Diploma, 1 year of Business Marketing and a year of General Studies from the University of Calgary.
Originally, I hoped to become an Interior Designer or Architect but changed my mind when I discovered the joy of web and graphic design. It has become my passion because it allows me to combine the creation of functional layouts with artistic elements in a perfect form. My architectural background has greatly aided me with web page layout. Indeed, web design is similar in process to the layout of a room – both employ the use of texture, image, colour scheme, and content arrangement. The computer has become an invaluable tool in my creations and I am rarely without it. I am constantly looking at the web, doing Photoshop tutorials and planning websites.
A love of travelling has greatly assisted me in the understanding of aesthetic criteria. In recent years I have toured 20 countries, studying their art, fashion and architecture. I have come to understand the elements of good design shared by different cultures and what is considered beautiful and artistically valid. This knowledge helps me with my web layouts and graphic designs. Additionally, life abroad has awoken a love of photography in me; it has been great to record my journey and the inspiring places that I have seen through photographs.
Similarly, travel has made me aware of the variety of cuisines in the world and of the varied presentation and appreciation of food other cultures have. I’ve acquired a love of cooking and have taken a myriad of culinary classes in the evening and on weekends. There is nothing that I enjoy more than creating delicious food from fresh seasonal ingredients. These culinary passions lead me to create my blog, Sweet & Savory Kitchen. Through my blog I am able to share menus, recipes, food photography, and ideas for entertaining at home.
To further my knowledge in cooking I attended the French Culinary Institute in New York City. I graduated with a Grand Diploma in Culinary Arts in August of 2011.
